SFQ Readers,

I have faith in your fine taste in media but I also recognize the need at the core of any genre fiction fan's heart for some camp, some pulp, some trash. Sometimes, you don't want to deal with large important questions or moral issues. You just don't want to worry about complicated things like a character's motivations or completely coherent plots in your entertainment. You, dear reader, want explosions. Yes. The movie Doomsday will give you them and an array of other little nuggets that add up to an enjoyable experience. Go into the movie expecting to be entertained at the lowest possible level of intellectual engagement (as I did) and you'll not be disappointed. You may even be surprised at the moments when the movie touches a variety of genres and sub-genres as it moves from scene to scene. I read here that one person aptly labeled the movie "genre bingo." If this movie is genre Bingo I just won a veritable 12 speed blender of low-brow enjoyment.

Moments of the movie feel like they're almost out of something Slipstream, others like classic post-apocalyiptic visions of cannibalism and anarachy. There's moments of cyberpunk, regular punk, and even steampunk in a high speed escape via steam engine! (Perhaps even Brickpunk if one stretches their imaginations a little.) The casting for this film is spectacular, everyone here plays a cliché so well that it's like you're watching not a single actor but a kind of character. It's full of people you've seen but maybe can't quite place: Alexander Siddig (who played Doctor Bashir on DS9) or Malcolm McDowell (Alex in A Clockwork Orange or more recently Mr. Linderman from Heros) or Bob Hoskins (who I recognize from Jet Li's Unleashed). Here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

If that's not absurd enough for you it brings me great pleasure to give you readers There Will Be Vader, some of Darth Vader's iconic scenes with Henry Plainview's voice instead of Vader's.

The whole thing may not be worth your 8 minutes but just the opening scene from A New Hope is worth it.
